A sleep test to screen for sleep apnea can be performed at home. Such testing is not useful for assessing other sleep disorders. All testing in the Province of Ontario must take place through an accredited Independent Health Facility.

A negative test is reasonably accurate to exclude sleep apnea. A positive test suggests the presence of sleep apnea, but requires confirmation with an in lab sleep study, before treatment can be recommended or prescribed.

Currently the Ministry of Health does not fund in home testing. The cost of testing is $200, plus a refundable $100 upon return the equipment.

The results will be available within 1-3 days.

Home testing can be arranged upon request.
